Marble Lab
Tilt the phone and a physically modelled ball rolls, slips, bounces and falls through a landscape.
Current build
Open board to build on, and Saddle and Basin (Relief v0.1 with Sculpt v0.1): drafts, not yet endorsed. Automated checks pass; real-phone validation is pending.
Development stages
Each stage is the game as it was committed at that milestone, still playable.
-
Initial tilt maze
One top-down maze. Tilt sets acceleration, not velocity, so momentum and counter-tilt braking matter. Pitched-neutral calibration, touch and keyboard fallback, fixed physics step and sensor diagnostics.
-
Material physics
Real ball dimensions, mass and inertia. Contact friction, rolling loss, restitution and spin, so steel and rubber behave differently on wood and sand. Hole capture depends on speed and geometry.
-
Expanded material combinations
Ice with slip and re-grip, hollow table-tennis balls with visible drag, low-rebound cork, billiard reference coefficients, and wall material chosen independently of the floor.
-
Screen space, look and sound
Portrait board scaling, safe areas and an installable web app. Procedural surfaces, spin marks and shadows. Web Audio rolling and impact sounds, optional haptics.
-
Terrain dynamics and open edges
A smooth heightfield feeds slope and curvature into the contact model. Crests can launch the ball, the summit needs a three-second hold, and open edges let the ball fall off the board.
-
Relief v0.1 (draft)
A generated landscape with passes, drainage holes, curved walls, a trap pocket, sand, resin and a goal summit. Optional full-motion input from measured phone acceleration. A bot rejects levels it cannot finish.
-
Sculpt v0.1 (draft)
Reshape the board in a build phase: press to dig a hollow with a raised rim or to pile ground up, hold to deepen, drag to plough. Slopes and curvature stay within the contact model's bounds; the start, goal and holes stay untouched. Edited boards are labelled and unchecked.
-
Movable walls and ball size
Move or turn the low wall and the pocket wall in the build phase, as long as a way to the goal remains. Choose the ball size, 0.5–1.6× its nominal diameter, against a board that keeps its size: smaller balls drop into holes more often. The physics now takes the level as an input.
-
Open board and movable objects
The game opens on a flat, empty board to build a course on; Saddle and Basin remains as a second board. Every object except the border moves; walls turn and stretch, holes, patches and the goal ring resize, and walls, holes, sand and resin can be added or removed, as long as every ball size can still reach the goal.
